Masterson’s Tavern , positioned in the vibrant core of Moonee Ponds, promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my most recent experience at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I discovered behind its walls was shocking and unacceptable on multiple levels .

From the moment I entered , it was immediately obvious that hygiene was not a priority at this venue. The surfaces were tacky , and a foul smell of stale beer and filthy restrooms permeated the entire establishment . Reeking of a mixture of urine , decay and sour vomit . The counter , which should be the focal point of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and refuse that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The restroom was in even a more revolting state — backed up, with a broken handle and walls covered in what I can only assume was human excrement .
It wasn’t just a isolated occurrence either. From reading other reviews and conversing with residents , it seems that the quality of upkeep (or lack thereof) at this pub is a well-known flaw . For a business that serves drinks , these issues are utterly disgraceful and raise serious concerns about the safety of their products .
